Willie Mays, one of the greatest outfielders in MLB history was recognized as the best player in the 1960s after 10 years of dominance.
Mays edged out Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax and Roberto Clemente, who all put together incredible careers in their own right. In the 10 seasons, Mays scored 1,050 runs, 350 home runs and 126 stolen bases. He was also selected for every All-Star game throughout the decade. He won 9 Gold Gloves and added and MVP season in 1965.
When Mays retired in 1973, he had 660 home runs, 1,903 RBIs, 2,062 runs and an incredible .302 career batting average. He went on to win one more MVP and finished with 12 Gold Glove awards and he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1979.
